Safety

Built to support remembrance without replacing real life.

Grief can be tender, disorienting, and urgent. Afterlight is designed to offer gentle memorial reflection while encouraging users to stay connected with living people, routines, clinicians, faith leaders, and emergency support when needed.

If you may hurt yourself or someone else

In the United States, call or text 988 now for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If there is immediate danger, call emergency services. Outside the United States, contact local emergency services or a local crisis hotline.

What Afterlight blocks

The service blocks or redirects requests involving self-harm encouragement, violence or threats, hateful content, illegal activity, exploitation, or attempts to make the AI claim it is the deceased person.

Dependency nudges

If the system detects high-frequency use, deep-night use, or language suggesting over-dependence, it may suggest pausing, resting, or contacting someone in real life.

Voice and realism limits

Voice remembrance is limited, reviewed, disclosed as AI-generated, and restricted from export when risk is higher. Afterlight should not create deceptive audio, fake evidence, or supernatural claims.
