Care Pledge

Afterlight should help people return to life, not keep them attached.

Afterlight is built for a delicate moment: when someone still has words, updates, apologies, gratitude, or ordinary stories they wish they could share with a loved one who has died. Our promise is to support that need without turning grief into dependency.

No resurrection claims

The product must never imply that the deceased person is alive, present, watching, forgiving, or sending messages. AI reflections are supportive drafts based on user-provided context, and they should remain clearly labeled as AI-generated.

Recovery over retention

Success is not measured by endless use. The healthiest path may include fewer sessions, shorter voice reflections, more real-world actions, and eventually a closing ritual that helps the user carry love forward outside the app.

Pricing that respects grief

Afterlight should not optimize pricing around grief intensity, late-night vulnerability, or emotional dependence. When a user completes a closing ritual, the service can offer a refund, donation, or split choice according to Apple, Stripe, and applicable platform rules.

Real-world nudges

If usage patterns suggest over-reliance, the service may suggest rest, daylight, contacting someone trusted, completing a small offline ritual, or reaching professional and crisis support when needed.

Privacy by default

Memorial photos, voice samples, videos, and personal memories are among the most sensitive data a person can hold. The product should keep original assets on device whenever possible and give users direct deletion controls.
